We've long been a fan of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (bio here). His intelligence, his doctrinal faithfulness, and his close relation to John Paul II all weighed in our hope the college of cardinals would select him to follow in the footsteps of John Paul II. We were not disappointed, and the caterwauling of the left in response only brings a broader smile to our face as we greet the new Pope.
